Earl’s Restaurant- Penticton

Okay, today I got my “happiness” fix. We went to Earl’s Restaurant today to finally see our friend, Daiya, and have a bite to eat.

We know Daiya from Salty’s Restaurant where she trains, supervises and generally keeps everything in tip-top shape. She does the same for Earl’s and is one busy lady.

We had the privilege of being served by an enchanting young gentleman, Michael, who was trained by Daiya when he first started and, believe this or not, you can always tell.

He was pleasant, at times funny and throughout the time we were there, enchanting in his manner. Don ordered the new dish, Crispy Thai Prawns and although I tried to find out what it entailed, they did not post this so we could see. It was, to say the least, terrific. I had to taste one and thought it was great.

I ordered the Chicken Brie and Fig on fresh Ciabatta bread. This has roasted apples, spinach and a garlic aioli. This is to die for and, with a glass of Pinot Gris to go with it, it could not be beat.

I was glad to hear that Daiya will be working between the two restaurants and I hope if you are in the area, you visit and taste what they have to offer. You won’t be disappointed.

jojo’s cafe, Osoyoos

Yesterday we drove down to Osoyoos to visit our favourite Bakery and, on the way home, decided to drop in to jojo’s cafe for some lunch.

http://www.jojoscafe.ca/

What a pleasant surprise this little gem is. The menu is on a huge blackboard on the wall – sandwiches, salads, soups, coffee, cold drinks. All fresh made when you order.

Don ordered a BLT sandwich on focaccia bread and I ordered, after a small pout, a shrimp sandwich on focaccia. (I say pout because I really wanted an egg salad sandwich but, like every restaurant in the country, it had onions in it)

The sandwiches are huge and we split our sandwiches so we each had a blt and shrimp. They were super great. Besides, we know our Bakery and they use Lake Village Bakery focaccia.

I had a coffee and I wish I had asked what kind they use. It was THE BEST coffee I have had in any etablishment in a very, very long time. I can still taste the wonderful brew (in my mind, of course).

This is a small cafe, but clean with friendly staff and a steady following. We will definitely make this a favourite spot for us.

** Note to establishments, how hard is it to set aside a couple of hard-boiled eggs so people like me can have an egg salad sandwich WITHOUT the hateful onions? Just askin’…..
