From Dublin to Cork

Day 4 is to go to the main breeding racehorse centre and 100 year old Japanese Garden. It does sound like these two don’t go together but they do.

Our guide is absolutely captivating and away we go through the various areas, explaining the terms for each age of the horses, the horses in retirement in the field and then  their stalls.  Seeing the babies with their mommies, the stallions, the history of the winners from here and then we start going  through the Gardens, including the area set aside for the “little people”.

It is worth going with Insight Vacations if only for the care Tom puts into every step of our  journey together, varying times or days outings to avoid the cruise ship crowds, believe me he really cares and we are so appreciative.

I have to run now, but I will continue this later. I will call it Part 2.

Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin

We have finally arrived after a not-so-nice flight and were met by our Tour Guide, Tom Horgan. More on this terrific man later.

The hotel room is well laid out and the shower comes with instructions and is fun to figure out. The bed is comfortable but jet lag makes a full night’s sleep questionable.

The dinner in the Dining Room was beef  in a beautiful sauce on rice  several salads. Dessert however will make you think the angels were singing just for you. It was a Bailey’s Cheesecake. It was very tasty and enjoyable.

The next morning eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, grilled tomato halves, blood pudding, sausages, Irish bacon, scones, pastries, toast, cereals, porridge, fresh fruit of all kinds, juices, coffee and tea. Now we have to get on the bus for a wonderful sightseeing trip through the streets of Dublin, Trinity College and seeing the book of Kells, and then walk through the Long Hallway where over 6 million books are shelved floor to ceiling. It has a staff of 180 people to look after this.

Our young guide (a student, was very knowledgeable, funny and walked us around the grounds explaining everything about the school and the traditions.

The afternoon was an option to go to the County of Wicklow and the countryside. There is a valley they call the ’40 shades of green’ and it is truly stunning. Once there we walked through St. Kevin’s monastic site and then return to Dublin via Sugerloaf mountain.

Wonderful day. Wow!
