Fleetwoods On Front Street, Maui

Everyone has, at one time or another, heard of the Fleetwood Mac musical group so this review may help you understand where I am coming from.

While in Maui this December with daughter, Kelly we asked her where she wanted to go or see and commented  she wanted to go here “just because”, so off we go. Upstairs on the rooftop dining room for lunch with breath catching-eye popping scenery was a great beginning.

Our server, Paul, comes over with a big smile and asks for our beverage order. Don ordered a St. Pauli beer and I ordered my usual, Pinot Grigio. Kelly, on the other hand, ordered a Seaside Lemonade. All were yum. BTW, Fleetwoods has the only rooftop restaurant plus two floors of entertainment in the lower dining rooms.

Appetizers were more than awesome for Kelly and Don. They wanted to share  an Ahi Poke (pronounced pokay) so they raved, almost cried about it being the best Ahi poke they had EVER had. I kid  you not. It was so great, they ordered another one. Believe me their rantings about how wonderful this is and was is still going on a couple of weeks later. Oh, did I mention, we had another round of yummy beverages? Yup! we did.

Kelly and I decided we would share a Beet and Tomato Salad with Burrata Cheese and a Cheeseburger. Don ordered the Clam Linguine dish. We tasted one and all and truly, it is the best food on the Island and that is some tribute. Oh, but we are not done yet…we ordered a Creme Brulee for dessert with 3 spoons.  This meal was a luxury to say the least  and we finished it off with coffee.

I can’t say enough about the service and ambience of this establishment. It was laughter from start to finish and Paul, again. was truly a top rate server who really knows his craft well.

This was Kelly’s Christmas present to Don and myself and WOW, we  Thank you.

I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you. After eating the poke, Kelly  “Fred is dead”, Fred is dead” (referring to another restaurant in Maui). We agree and  yes, we will be back.

Pirate’s Chips Restaurant

On a very wet, chilly and damp morning, following an appointment, we went looking for a new  place to have lunch. We have passed this place many, many times but today we went in. It is a smaller restaurant,  clean and decorated in a nautical fashion.

The menu is huge and we really had a time trying to make the right choice and decided we would share a 2 piece cod  dinner and (get ready) poutine fries. Now, before you think we have lost it, they have the best fish and chips we have seen this side  of  Vancouver. The poutine looked so darn good on another table, we had that instead of regular fries. Uh, uh, we were not the least bit sorry. The gravy on the fries was probably THE best. Our delightful server informed us it was a vegan gravy (???) but oh so good.

The cod serving was 2 gigantic pieces of heaven on a plate. Light batter, just a perfect golden colour served with coleslaw and lemon. Beautiful. It also came with a bottomless cup of coffee.

Now you would think we were done, right? hold on….the table back of us had a deep fried Nanaimo bar served with a large scoop of ice cream and equal sized mound of whipped cream. Both drizzled with chocolate sauce. Oh yeah!

This was a ‘had to try’ once in our lifetime, but I can think of two daughters and granddaughters that would kill for this dessert. It is lovely to taste, very, very rich to consume. This was shown of CBC Dragon’s Den television show. It is certainly worth a try.

We will be back. Their menu is definitely one to go to again and again just to try more of it.
