Cactus Club – Valentine’s Dinner

Last night, Don took me to the Cactus Club for our dinner. I think it was about our 34 or 35th Valentine’s and was, of course, special. The place was really crowded (early time) and we had the most gracious server, Mikaela.

We ordered our beverages and were told the wine was half price, soooooo we did that and Don had his drink.

We ordered our favourite appy  and then ordered our dinner. I, of course, ordered my one and only dish, the Ravioli with Shrimp and Don ordered the Peppercorn steak. When the meals came out, Don cut into his steak and it was not cooked as ordered. The Manager, Eldon noticed something was amiss and promptly came over, with a  smile and asked if he could help. He saw the problem and promptly removed his plate and promised it would be corrected and right back out.

It took longer than hoped (obviously it was really busy) and it came out and again Eldon and Mikaela came over to see that all was good. It was and it was delicious.

When the bill was to come out, Eldon came over and said because it was Valentine’s and the dinner was longer in being corrected, he was going to remove it from our bill. He apologized for spoiling our dinner.

Now you know why the Cactus Club is so important to us. They are always consistent in the quality of their food, the servers are exceptional and they treat their customers like they really count.

Thank you Eldon, Mikaela and the Cactus Club for being so special.

Driftwood Chinese Buffet, Nanaimo

Last week when we were going to the movies, we decided to try this new restaurant. Only a few months old by the way. We found the food to be really good and fresh so yesterday, we all went for the Lunch Buffet.

The restaurant is very large and it was full. The food is not deep fried food that the other Chinese restaurants seem to prefer, but it is all fresh and darn tasty. We arrived about halfway through the time (11:30 a.m. to @2 p.m). and the bowls were almost all empty.

We have found that this restaurant is the very best for Chinese Food in Nanaimo and trust me, we have tried them all. The seafood is cooked to perfection, just to mention one of their best assets.

Our best advice….go early and dine on all they have to offer. I promise you will return again and again. They also have a Dinner Buffet, if that is what you prefer.

The restaurant is next door to Montana’s
