And The Journey Begins

Well the vacation has begun…..we were 3 hours late leaving Vancouver, then we hit into a typhoon in Maui like no other….no electricity, no lights , getting lost for over an hour. Such fun!  My sister-in-law and her new hubby arrived in the afternoon and all was well.

We went to the local Mexican restaurant  (Fred’s)and enjoyed it all In fact, we all declared it was THE best ever. Right on the main road and very close to our condo.

Day 2

We enjoyed our  lunch at Bubba Gump’s. It is definitely one of our places when we are here not to ever miss. Then shopping for  new sandas a glass of wine, lively conversations and we say goodnight.

Day 3-Hana

Today  we start out at 9:30 a.m to  show this beautiful scenery to our honeymooners and drive to  Hana. God had  to have made this land…..it is so breathtaking. Now we come home again to a dinner in and to a game of cards.

See you tomorrow.

Missing But Not Lost

Last week I did not post a recipe blog for a couple of reasons.  In no particular order,  a  family member came first.

The lady in question is a cousin of my husband and what a beautiful lady she is. She has the happiest smile and sparkliest eyes around. Her heart and what she says is truly just as beautiful. No bitterness here. She very recently lost her beloved Dan of 40 plus years of marriage and has chosen to carry on.

We did what most people do when company arrives, we drove around to show (brag, actually) of what our area has to offer. We went out to lunch a couple of times and then, and this is the best part, she brought albums of pictures of her life with her beloved Dan and their children. It gave us insight and we actually felt we really did get to know her better.

She and my husband were great friends when really young so it was  fun to hear them remember places and people they knew…family members long gone, but with funny stories still remembered.

I married into this family and did not know so many of the intricacies  that are woven together by genetic strings and, when meeting  further on in life, they are still as strong as if a spider wove them yesterday.

Family members are important. If estranged and nothing can be mended, then cut the string, forgive them and carry on.  Keep a close eye on family but do not interfere in their decision making, unless ASKED. Love them with all your heart.

I wasn’t lost (and I did miss putting on the recipes) but I didn’t want to miss one second of our visit together and to show her just how special she is to us. I also hope and pray that the heart-strings are now even tighter than ever and our visits together get closer and closer in the coming years.

Pauline…thanks for sharing your memories with us and for coming to visit with us. We had a blast.
