Galway was rather exciting for two reasons: One, we took a walking tour with a wonderful expert guide of the City. We learned the history of this port city and was the Church of St. Nicholas where, it is reported, Christopher Columbus prayed before his discovery of America. We also saw the Spanish Arch and the Eyre Square which was dedicated to the late John F,. Kennedy, former President and then were given a little leisure time to (for us) shop and then:
Two: on the second day we took a ferry to the largest of the Aran Islands. We feel a wonderful vibe about it. We take a smaller bus up the road a way and then we get off. Here are a few stores but the rest of the group walked up the mountain and upon their return, we take a ride up to see the Seven Churches (actually 2 churches but 7 buildings).
This is one of the few places where they still all speak Irish Gaelic. We heard it on several occasions and found it enchanting. It is like going back in history. There are about 750 people still living here but tons of empty homes just left unattended. I find that to be a real shame.
We get back on the ferry and return back to Galway. I am so thankful to take this journey with Don and we getting closer to Antrim County.
