A Man Called Otto, The Movie

I have to start by saying Mr. Hanks, although a super actor, has not been a favourite of mine UNTIL NOW. I am sure that 50 plus years from now, this will be the movie most revered and remembered as his best.

The movie has so many truths in it it and some pretty good laughs. Tom Hanks draws you into this movie and, to be honest, you don’t want to leave it. I would go again to watch this movie.

I rarely go out and voice opinions on movies but, please, run – don’t walk to the theatre to watch this. His wife in real life, Rita Wilson, did a smash up job on this as the movie director and it is a real winner.

Again, run to the theatre…… oh,  be sure to buy the popcorn and be sure to ask for the butter to be ‘layerd’. YUM!

Travelodge by Wyndham At The Victoria Airport, Sidney, B.C.

We booked into this hotel because we had to be at the airport by 4:00 a.m. It is not how rooms, that a customer is paying top dollar for, should be accepted as the norm. The room is sterile of anything to make you feel comfortable. No pictures, posters – just stark white walls. The fan in the bathroom should be taken out. The noise is earth-shattering…maybe it just needs to be cleaned. The dust is hanging off the edges.

The heater/air conditioner suffers from the same malady…noise. The only way to lessen it is to shut it off completely. Remember, dear reader,  it is winter. Also, when making a bed, the sheet is usually first, then the duvet. Not the other way around.

The mattress should be donated to the nearest dump. It is so old and used, you keep sliding downhill to the very edge of the bed. The pillows as well. They are so soft they have no support for head or neck.

The bathroom is a nightmare. No counter of any kind. The edge around the sink would  barely hold a toothbrush. No place to put make up, shampoo etc. except on the toilet seat. Now that is sanitary isn’t it.

To watch TV you must sit on the bed. On the wall with the TV is a small table (?) with two straight backed chairs. No writing desk or some kind of flat surface. No shelving at all.

Now here is my sincere suggestion…please invite the President of your company to stay in this room for one complete night. I will bet there would be immediate changes.

We said once before we would never go to a Travelodge Hotel again, but time and distance said otherwise.
