When we were in Maui for our last week, we were always being told to go to Mama’s Fish House. http://www.mamasfishhouse.com/
We finally did go and I can’t begin to describe the setting. Breathtaking to say the least. We arrived at dusk and it was an a ha moment. We checked in and were early (by 45 minutes) and, of course, told to go to the bar and they would find us. We got as far as sitting on a stool and started to pick up the menu to select a drink when we were escorted to our table.
I ordered a drink called the “Relaxer” and my favourite DD, had a club soda with a wedge of lime. Don ordered Shrimp Won Tons for his Appetizer and I ordered the Crab Cakes. OMG! OMG! We each shared a taste of what we had ordered and now the main course arrives…..
Don ordered the Ahi Tuna with grilled Hamakua mushroom sauce and sweet potato mash. He thought he had died and gone to heaven. I, on the other hand, ordered the Opakapaka fish (caught that day and the fisherman’s name is on the menu) sauteed Haiku tomatoes, garlic butter, white wine and capers. OMG! The portions filled our plates and, although I desperately wanted the “Black Pearl” dessert, but we could not. I had also ordered a glass of wine with my dinner and it was cold, crisp and delicious (Maso Canal Pinot Grigio).
Presentation of the courses is a feast for the eyes and you just look at it for a few moments before diving in.
We left here feeling we got all they promise and more. Price is $$$ but worth every bit. If ever in Maui, this is truly a MUST SEE. Reservations definitely required.
