Boppard and Rothenburg-Ob-Der-Tauber

Our alarm rang off at 5:15m. with breakfast at 6:15. On the road by 7. This is our longest travelling day for the entire trip. We have to reach Boppard by noon to catch the river cruise. Believe it or not, we make it with 2 minutes to spare.

On board, you order your lunch and then sit down to enjoy the scenery for the next 1 1/2 hours. The castles, small villages that dot the shoreline are so unusual. We also saw the Loraley rock and were told the legend.

We finally arrive at the Hotel Eisenhut in Rothenberg. Now this hotel is divided into two buildings (across the street from each other). The restaurant and reception desk are on one side of the street and the other half of the hotel on the other side.

We are told to get to the Christmas store as soon as possible as they close at 7 p.m. Now, we can go for dinner.

Dinner started off with a lovely Franconian potato soup, followed by poached fillet of pike perch with buttered peas and rice and dessert, which I did not stay for, was a chocolate mousse with a vanilla sauce. The glass of Reisling was possibly the best so far, for my taste anyway. Tomorrow is a late rise – 7:45 a.m. with breakfast at 8:15b a.m. and leaving at 9:00 a.m.

All the while, when on a guided tour like Insight, your guide is informing you of history, stories and, in general, all the information needed to make the trip enjoyable. Insight is the way to go, for sure.
